
Richard L. “Dick” Kuss ’45, longtime Springfield businessman and philanthropist, who was known for his extraordinary generosity and genuineness, died in his sleep Aug. 9. He was 87. Throughout his life, Kuss not only shaped the Springfield community, but he deeply loved his alma mater, leading and participating in countless initiatives to advance Wittenberg, including two capital campaigns that raised more than $90 million. Wittenberg honored him numerous times, including awarding him the university’s Medal of Honor and its most prestigious alumni recognition, the Class of 1914 Award, among many other recognitions.
